One of the most obvious signs of aging is the loss of volume in the face. With a simple procedure called Facial Lipostructure, the lost volume can be restored and the texture of the skin improved using your own fat. This is done under general anesthesia and takes about an hour. Most patients require two weeks of recovery. 

What you should know about Lipostructure

Facial Lipostructure uses your own fat to fill the sunken areas of the face. Stem cells from fat can also be used to regenerate the skin, improving its texture and color. Fat is collected from areas where it is found in excess, usually from the thighs and the belly. The fat is processed immediately and transferred using very fine needles into the hollow areas of the face. The most frequently treated areas are: the cheeks, the temples, the eyelids, the brows and the naso-labial folds.

Fat processing techniques

Fat needs to be prepared before being injected. This process insures a better survival of the grafted fat cells. 

Microfat is fat processed for volume. A special processing technique improves the lasting of the injected fat to more than 60%. With older techniques less than 40% of the fat injected survived and the procedure had to be repeated.

Nanofat is fat rich in stem cells. A special processing technique separates the fat cells from the stem cells using a filter. The fat stem cells do not provide volume. They regenerate the skin. The dark skin under the eyes, wrinkles and scars can all be improved using nanofat.

Surgery and Recovery

Fat collection, processing and injection takes about an hour. The procedure is done under sedation or general anesthesia. Patients go home same day. Bruising and swelling can be expected for a few weeks. Cold compresses can be applied for two days to decrease bruising and swelling.
